Description

HFG-1 is named after the three astronomers that first observed it in 1982.  It is a planetary nebula composed almost entirely of Oiii gas.  The planetary nebula is formed from a binary system comprised of a white dwarf and a large red giant star. The two stars are very close and rotate about each other in just 14 hours.

It was taken as part of the SkyWatcher USA TOTM (target of the month) contest.  It was a difficult acquisition because (again weather) I was forced to image during a 90+ percent moon and this target is almost totally made up of Oiii gas.  The stars were re0placed with RGB stars.
